Here is a new live mixtape I did for the fake RICH gang out in sunny southern California. These dudes are top notch homies and know where you can get the best banh mi in town. Also, if you are looking to kick it with the Vietnamese gangsters with female servers wearing next to nothing, also your dudes.
While Sober was in town to play Shake Em Down one month ago we lived the Jamaica Plain life and strolled around town drinking coffee and eating sandwiches. We popped into the local Goodwill and stumbled upon one of the biggest grips of old freestyle and dance records I've ever seen in a thrift store at one time (photo of the holy moment). Definitely dropped off by a DJ, and I suspect I know where they came from having met up with a dude in my neighborhood who was sitting on tons of that stuff. Will and I both picked up some cuts and when we got back to the lab mixed this little tape together on the fly making it sort of a freestyled freestyle mix. Didn't come out half bad. Some standard sounding stuff along with some weird tunes on here. Still gathering track info but we'll post it in the comments when we've picked back through our piles to remember what we played. Props to Sobs for the mix skillz and ill graphic!
I did a new remix for Cee-Lo and it's available for free, online, as part of this weird Adult-Swim ATL remixed thingy. there's also really cool remixes by Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawk, and Mad Decent's DJA. here's the link
wazzzaaap. I haven't posted on this thing in ages. So this afternoon I did a Live At Home mix. just fartin around on the turntables procrastinating on cleaning up the crib. These are some of my favorite jams. I let the songs play out and some of the mixes are sloppy and one of my serato records had a scratch in it so it was skipping on some songs but that's all in the spirit of Live at Home right? I reaaaaalllly wanted to go in on the early 90's R&B but I spared you after a few choice cuts... oh yeah and there's some new Pase exclusive world premiere jams on there... actually just one from me, and then some other randomness... bump it late night, early in the morning... in your hooptie or your big body Benz. It's all to the good.
I met Ruddz in Monterrey, Mexico when Darko and I got invited down there to DJ. We played at this crazy Art festival in an old foundry that ended with a performance of fire breathing metal sculptures and dancing/repelling costumed creatures.... We also met Luis on this trip who, on a drunken whim after our DJ night, said he was gonna go to Europe with us to hang out and party (we were leaving the following day) . He wasn't joking, and was in the lobby at 8 am the next morning drinking espresso. You would think this would be creepy but it turned out to be an great example of "One More Daying it". Pretty amazing and hilarious time...but I digress.
Dr. Ruddz always sends me awesome Cumbias and weird edits from the deep south, so I asked him to do a mix...He sent over this nice mix and a couple exclusive tracks as well. Gracias guey!!!
"we have a funky situation going on and Its not very hard to notice that there's a beautiful woman involved into it. Yes yes yes this mixtape was made strictly for those cute ladies who inspires us to spin groovy sets for hours just to keep them moving from side-2-side over the dancefloor (or at those private overnights pj parties @home). Party Disco Jamz. It's a blend including all kinds of picks i've been listening last few weeks, some of them i never have a chance to play at regular gigs, some of them are always in the bag, some of them are old, some of them are new, some are made by friends & some are made also by me. Hope you like it.
Funny thing is that the session was also sort of experiment, came out with a solution to record live tracked sets using the rane serato box and your home studio I/O interfase. Just need 4 x RCA mono "Y"-kind of extension cables to split every Serato output into 2 independent mono outputs. Every Left/RIght LINE output of the Serato should connect one end to the djmixer and the other end goes directly to the I/O interfase in two separated channels @Logic. You can use also third channel to record the session mix as it. Totally Live at home... It works fine!"
Sober came through and did a top job of rocking Shake Em Down this past weekend (photos here), not to mention an excellent set on Mofo Radio (audio here). Catch him in New York starting tonight at Beauty Bar in Brooklyn, and Friday at Karma with Morsy. Wanted to post this ill rap mixtape he recorded in preparation for his journey into the Belly of the East. Grab it here! Check the Soberspace for more details! Here is a new mix I put together for Austin Asian American Film Festival. The festival was just this last Thursday through Sunday, and it went off with great success. The opening party was amazingly fun, as I got to play my collection of Asian music. The mix covers many regions of Asia, but keep an eye out for a special Southeast Asian thang thang with me and Mike the 2600 King coming soon.
Put together this 30 min. collection Songs, recordings, and snippets. It's a bunch of songs I've been listening to on the road, some recordings of the places/shows I've been involved with and some music I have been fucking around with. Kind of an audio sketchbook of the last few weeks ... †racklist posted in comments
Just when you thought I'd all but disappeared from blog and radio, I'm here to drop some more tunage on you to truly live up to our Fully Fitted motto (when it rains, it pours).
Been meaning to share these for a while. From this odd comp with chintzy cover art but a few big tchunes. Not reggae per se but some good UK dub tracks on there. Mentioned it on the Mofo Blogue (this post). Thought I'd share a few more now that I have the track names sorted (ID3's were wrong when I ripped it).
I first heard this tune on Depeche Mode's 101 tour video in the earlier 90s. I never knew who it was until way later. While ripping vinyl the other day, I thought I would give it a go. The groove and feel of this record is uneffwittable.
With tomorrow being a pretty big day here in Berlin maybe its a good idea to post something about Berlin...Watched the first part of this documentary in the van as well. Its pretty awesome. (Keeping your internet tabs open after you have loaded stuff is a great way to take video from the web on the road with you, thanks Darkie D) Thanks for the video 'ol @cullenstalin
For some reason we never blog about our parties when they're happening. I used to think it's cuz we're all so "humble" but it's really cuz we're just goddamn lazy! Last night was the two year anniversary of Shake Em Down. Here's my best attempt at lastnightsparty only not porn and pics of people I know. More here. Also had to give props to the amazing flyer from Sober!
And TONIGHT! The last edition of the one and only Do It Again featuring the Do It Again crew and perhaps some ghosts of Do It Again's past...
