Stuff that never got released pt.6 "Fairy Tales"

Here is a remix i did for a group called Hypernova. The remix never made it out due to a lack of chorus/vocals...but I was pretty happy with the way this wierd little thing ended up. You can grab it here or at Self Titled Magazine where they have posted this remix along with a new mix I did for their "needle exchange" series. The mix has alot of punky disco stuff, edits, and some new experimantal sounds I've been working on. Hope it's worth your time.

Metro Area x Karen Young - Hot For Miura (prince klassen blend)

We haven't done a "Stuff That Never Got Released" post in some time now, so I thought this would be fitting. I made this blend a couple of years ago on the fly and then finally took some time to actually put them together. I am sure we are all familiar with Miura from Metro Area, and some might be familiar with the vocals from a Lil Louis track that sampled the same jawns. Anyway, here you go.

Some people have been asking for blends from a few of the mixes we've done in the past. I'm not big into making blends or mash-ups but ....Heeeeere we go :

stuff that never got released part 5: TOTAL RECALL GIRLZ

Sorry that last post was a total waste of space here's a good one.

The Virgins. A band who, you'd hope, would look like this:

but sadly, they look like this:

and they sound kind of like the strokes. except on dope. or like, the strokes crossed with the modern lovers? anyway I did 2 mixes for them on spec. The first had, according to an Atlantic A&R who will remain unnamed, too many changes, or different parts for a dance song:

"the Atlantic team love the direction you took it
in, but as a remix... they feel that there are to many "feelings" aka
"moods" to keep the average dance floor patron interested and remembering
the song, they would like for you to remove some of the diversity (imagine
that) and keep it a straight dance floor song"

A fair piece of criticism. So I redid it, still on spec, and turned in this version which I thought was pretty good:

TOTALRECALGIRLZ_XXXCHANGE_1.mp3

after I turned this in I was pretty sure it was a wrap but then they came back again this time saying "now it's too dancey." I was beginning to feel like a rat in a maze and more than a little sick of the song, not to mention I had a sneaking suspicion that maybe they were just fucking with me for the fun of it. so I said "ok give me half the money we agreed on up front and I'll do another mix" (not really intending to do shit except take the money). and that's where we left it.

stuff that never got released pt.4 (sort of)

Lots of people have been asking for this one so I figured i'd put it up. This actually came out in the video game "skate" but never saw an mp3 release on the soundtrack or otherwise so for those that asked here ya go:

stuff that never got released pt.3 "LFWWS"

well the Kudu remix album came out and we're not on it! so what the heck. LFWWS is short for "Let's Finish What We Started." Kudu stands for " K.ids U.nder D.emonic U.sage." Me and Chris Devlin did this remix one year ago in 2.0.0.7.

stuff that never got released pt.2 "Nausea"

another good one from the fall of '06 that never happened. No cool story behind this one. We toured with beck, briefly, he commissioned the remix around the same time. good dude. mad famous and shit. awesome band. great show. no idea why they didn't use the mix.

stuff that never got released pt.1 "smile" LINK FIXED

This is the first post in what will hopefully turn into a series (if we don't get sued. lol.) of remixes and other stuff that was commissioned but never released for whatever reason. Out in palm springs last weekend me, Ron, Emily and some of our new friends were hanging out by the pool, this song came on my itunes, and we were like,"wow this didn't turn out so bad after all!" so we thought we'd share it with y'all since now it's a few years later and like pase says "she's pretty much irrelevant at this point."

This was a mix that I got asked to do in the fall of '06 by Lily Allen's people for her big song at the time"Smile." The song overall had some pretty good lyrics etc. but I wasn't totally sure about the music or what I could really contribute to it, 95 bpm not being one of my strongest areas. So I asked Darko to come over to help me brainstorm a quick idea up, and we ended up knocking the whole remix out in about 6 hours.

After flipping through my 90-100 bpm'd serato crate for a few minutes, we decided to do a little interpolation of the first few bars of "I'm your puppet," especially the bells part which worked well with her melody line. We replayed all the parts, added some breathy vocals of our own, for extra flair, wrote some new changes for the chorus, and turned it in. Initially I had high hopes, we got paid, the label loved it, BUT, apparently Lily hated it, so no biggie, I figured it would be shit-canned for good. About a month later we heard Mark Ronson's, or rather, Wale's remix, of "Smile" which sounded an awful lot like "I'm your puppet" too! haha looks like great minds think alike! (or at least do remixes by beat matching the two songs in serato and then replaying the samples!)lol. well anyway, without further ado here's our version:
