live @ Home Part 8.....Prince Klassen

Pase's Dim Mak post is Right DOwn THere... dont worry.

The Prince is back. Klassen sent this mix over a few weeks ago, but he is coming back to Jamaica Plain to play Shake Em Down with me on May 1st so I waited to post it untill this week.

I've been down with Klassen since we met at a show we were doing in Austin a couple years back. Great dude, great taste, sincere about his music and he pulls that rope chain off real well. Central Booking, his crew in Texas, throws events hosting all them bonafied acts from around the country and globe.

I briefly met these guys in Austin at their SXSW Whiskey Bar show. San Serac, Black Jks, and Queen Majesty were on the bill (good taste, yea). It was a really cool event and these guys were nothing but hospitable. I met Sober out there and he hooked up the cover image for Klassen's mix, and the awesome flyer for this months party.

Back to Prince Klassen, here is his mix, it will put that pep in your step.

Take it away Chris...

"I had a series of "live from home" cassettes a few years back and now since god invented the internet and technology, its even easier to get my mixes and music out there. I tried a few different mixes for this one, and I was pleased with what came out this afternoon. I started a facebook account yesterday and now have 36 friends. I also got a promo of the new Santogold record and that is now on my top records of 2008 list. I made a great dinner tonight that consisted of pan friend dumplings and rice from my new rice cooker. Yesterday this girl that works at a Banh Mi stand was taking my order and then was attempting to take my name for the order, but said, "ricardo?". I then said, "Chris" and told her she was racist. I will be in Boston for shake em down"

PARTY MAY 1st!!!:

How about some hardcore

I wrote this for the DIm Mak blog

yeah we like it raw!!! this is an M.O.P. reference. M.O.P. is a rap group from Brownsville Brooklyn which is about ten minutes from where I am right now which is around the corner from the Huxtables in Brooklyn Heights. I'm telling you this because I know if you are reading this a. you are probably a somewhat corny candy ass 19 - 24 year old hipster from LA who was somewhere in California and about 3 or 4 years old when this song came out, or you were like 11 when "ante up" came out. OR b. you're just an old clueless motherfucker, which is okay. OR c. you're not from America and you just think Steve Aoki is the coolest DJ evar. which, I dont know how cool that is. you be the judge and jury of that. bottom line, Pase Rock is old as fuck. So you're gonna have to deal with my fucked up hip hop references. Anyway, I was supposed to be on a plane right now leaving Los Angeles for New York but guess what? I came home a day early! why, you might ask? (WHY PASE?) because I had to fly home early from Coachella to DJ for my favorite woman on the planet (other than my Mom or my Grandma or my cousin/ big sis Valencia who is in some of these pics... and yes Sarah I call my grandma when I'm rolling on ecstasy at 10 am, more on that later.) it's Santogold! I'm not just saying that because her buzz is more buzzed than your shitty alcoholic uncle. Santi is kinda my favorite person for real. For one, she is 1/3rd responsible for my biggest (only?barely?) hit "Lindsay Lohan's Revenge" all written in her living room. Anyway, her album comes out tomorrow. Tuesday April 29th. buy that shit. So she's on Conan tonight (watch that shit). She kills it. I'm in the background dancing around in my new little hat looking like Jean Pierre Le Douche (waddup Parra!). I forgot my rings so i was kinda pissed off. Her dancers are hot as fuck, and I tried to make out with Desiree one night a few months ago but she was not having it. You would think by now I would know when I got the green light and when I should just go home, jerk off and call it a night. Nooooo, I had to go ruin a decent casual friendship trying to hit home runs. (douche chills!!!) so what was I talking about? SANTOGOLD! I missed her Coachella set cuz me and Them Jeans, Dan Oh, Gina, my friend Kara and Sarah Morrison (who never stops talking ever, and on top of that she talks so fast its completely incomprehensible gibberish. It just starts sounding like a melodic chainsaw after awhile) were eating BBQ and enjoying the comforts of our heated swimming pool (sidenote: Aoki never showed up.) (another sidenote: excessive use of unnecessary parentheses stops here>>>>)

So saturday I hit Coachella at about 7 pm, catch a little Kraftwerk and Portishead and MIA's last song. I just wanted to see Prince. and I decided that today was the day I was going to dabble in illegal substances. I don't do drugs. I barely even drink. Make fun of me and my Pinot Grigio or Prosecco at the club if you want. I'm thirty and sexy as a motherfucker, so you can eat a dick you fucking zombied out dipshits. I'm gonna live a long healthy life. and remember what the fuck happened towards the end. Santi feels the same way. This is what saddened me when I finally ran into her at Coachella on Saturday. She yells my name and I run up and give her a hug. She then says "Pase you have to hang out with me. Everybody is either on drugs or looking for drugs and you and me have to be together and be the sober ones. I'm all "uhhhhhh, dude. dont be mad at me but I'm ROLLING MY FACE OFF RIGHT NOW!" I watched her jaw drop and heart sink. I knew that I would never be doing that shit again. But as much as I love Santi i wasn't about to let her kill my high. ECSTASY IS THE SHIT! HOLLLLUUUURRRRRRRRRR!!!!
I'm not gonna talk about how dope Prince is/was because honestly I dont remember much of it. I was too busy telling all my friends how much I loved them and I didnt want to be in any other place but there with them wacthing Prince. This was all true. but it's the kind of thing you usually pick a better time and place for, or maybe not. I'm not the most talkative dude on the planet so I figured I would take this rare occasion to tell my friends how much I loved them (shout out to Bryan and Chris Devlin and Alex) having really hot girls around never hurts either.

there is no point to this long ass shit. I just wanted to share some pics. these are from the last week or so. Me hanging out in my neighborhood. Me, Eli, Alex and Amanda in the studio working on Amanda's debut. Me, Valencia and Rick taking the boys (Cade and Bam Bam) to the park. some shots from the DJ house BBQ and some shots from Conan today. not so many of me cuz I'm taking the pics! p.s. Conan is on RIGHT NOW! tune into NBC wherever you are.

Live @ Home....Part 7 Fourcolorzack.

Was really glad to see that this mix made it to my inbox. FourColorZack is our good buddy from the west, we featured one of his grand mixes back in 2007, but you can get the real deal mixes here.

The Virgin Surgeon, Lil' Dip, Fo' Color Zack Attack, whatever you want to call him he's the guy. He does really interesting design and shit in the daytime and then Djs 8 nights a week in Seattle...Maybe thats why he's a really good dj? Anyway, if your in the NorthWest make sure to get out to Sing Sing (w/Seattles finest Pretty Titty) and Yo Son or just check the Paper, it wont be hard to find  him...and when you do just say, "pool 2? "

Moving Pictures.

This is a Promo film for "Your mind and we belong together" by Love. I first heard the song on the re-issue of Forever Changes. This track isn't the best from that disc, but the album itself, whoa . I was just introduced to it last year and it has quickly become a favorite.

Forever Changes
came out the same year as Sgt.Peppers Lonley Hearts Club Band and Pink Floyd's Debut album Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and Jimi Hendrix's Axis Bold as Love and Donavan's Mellow Yellow and the list goes on. Needles to say, that year was crazy.

Just finished this:

7711443

whoa.

This is from a really great documentary on the making of
Dark Side of The Moon
. There is too much to say about the album and how cool the whole process of its conception was. Thats why they made this movie. You should buy it if you like music.

Live @ Home....Part 6.5 Beyonder (Bladerunners pt.2)

Need I Say more?
If you need to hit this guy up or ask him questions about all his glorious mixes and photographs go here.

Beyonder on the mix :

"I threw this shit together the other night after djing top 40 Hip Hop and Big Room House to sloppy drunk college kids...

7L told me he used all vinyl for his set, so I had to "keep it real" and do the same. Started off with Todd Terry's Party People which only made sense to follow with Planet Rock.
THEN... if not to beat a dead horse even more, I had to throw in THE house anthem of all house anthems... mixed with the Juice instrumental (don't ask me why).
Keeping with the house theme...a little Ultra Mag Housing Things mixed with MAW The Ha Dance. I forgot how fun it is to rock real acapellas in a set.
After the all to awkward dramatic pitch down of the Ha Dance, I slapped Ms Janet's It's Alright over it followed by a random super gay joint,
Angel In Disguise by DJ Cole Medina, that just screams out man love... but in a good way... wait,,, what?
Keeping on next up is Let Me Show You Love then I kept it soooo fucking real with a little Disco Juice and a dope ass version of Space Funk. Hope yall enjoy"

Live @ Home....Part 6

This one just in from 7L.

Yes man, the 7L of 7L & Esoteric, and more recently Bladerunners. 7L has been holding shit down in Boston on the scene for some time. Just hit the google or wikipedia and check the credentials. The Bladerunners is a more recent endevour, but they have been going hard as well, putting out remixes, edits and mixtapes. You can find all that here, along with a schedule of their parties ect. (so hey... purchase Bladerunner mixtapes to support working djs!)

Bonus: Next week a mix from 7L's partner in Crime Beyonder.

7L on the mix:

"For starters, like everyone always says,I could pick pretty much every mix/cut/blend on this thing, which I did, and re recorded the mix right after the first run thru, but all the spontaneous shit was gone, some songs weren't planned, but came out cool, ect, ect...all in all I am happy with it...def thought some of the mixers were way cleaner, but what can ya do..I am sort of a hack anyway when it comes to that, I am still big on the 'match the tempo, but just cut for 8 Bars and just slam the next in' kind of dj... I used my trustly wax, my 1200's, pioneer djm 500 and my sp 303...actually had a real, real good time doing this, so I am pumped Mr Delvin gave me the go a head!!"

Balagan on "Soleil Soleil"(not the new spankrock record):

"I first found this record on 7" with a rad picture sleeve at A-1 Records in NYC, damn near shit myself over the lite-brite looking Arabic projected on a lady's prone torso and the beats on the disc. I couldn't find shit about the singer, Ahmed Fakroun, except that he was from Benghazi, a city on Libya's northern coast known for being cosmopolitan. I guess that's how he ended up working with French fashion photographer and video director Baptiste Mondino, who did this video. Like everything else, it recently showed up on YouTube after a number of years of me looking for it.

Check the casbah vibe with the Sly and Robbie rhythm. Unngh!"
